Dear Mr Duncan, I am emailing to express my support to the Auckland Ratepayers’ Alliance and its concerns about public comments you made in relation to its “These Councillors are Rubbish” campaign in Rodney and Albany. You alleged that the Ratepayers’ Alliance material may be ‘misleading’ but have not withdrawn that claim or apologised despite neither the Council nor you having identified to them a single misleading claim in their research or what they drew from Council information. You have had plenty of time after their reasonable requests for details. I uphold the principle that public officials serve the community in a politically neutral way. Fairness and honesty are undermined when there is no substantiation of a serious allegation. Please therefore explain, or tell me that you withdraw your claim and apologise, or if you were ordered to make the false accusation and have since been prevented from responding properly, tell me who is responsible. If you do none of those, I join the call for you to resign from your position with Auckland Council. Yours sincerely,
