Despite its members not being elected by Aucklanders, the Independent Māori Statutory Board has a seat at the council table and significant influence over council decision-making.

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has acknowledged that the Independent Māori Statutory Board should not retain voting rights on Auckland Council committees.

We call on the Government to act immediately and pass the necessary legislation now, rather than waiting until after the general election.
