Stop ratepayer money for Phil's statue

Goff's statue

Just weeks after slamming Aucklanders with a regional fuel tax, Phil Goff is committing $1 million in ratepayer money to a "Statue of Liberty" style monument at Bastion Point, depicting the Mother Earth figure Papatūānuku.

That million dollar bill is just for the design phase - we're yet to learn what the cost of construction will be.

We believe this is a frivolous use of ratepayer money, and a galling move while the Council claims to be in dire financial straits.

The iwi that originally came up with the idea, Ngāti Whātua Orākei, is more than capable of funding the statue themselves.

Please sign our petition to demonstrate to the Council that ratepayers won't stand for this monumental waste.

"I oppose the use of ratepayer money on the proposed Bastion Point statue."
